Flash: Nicholas has a home...please scroll to the bottom of this page.
On December 23, 2001 this boy was found on the side of the road, starving to death. He was barely standing, trying to drink out of a tiny puddle at the curb in front of a bakery. Nobody seemed to notice this starving boy.
Dr. Karen Garner of Arborlane Akitas and her friend Becky pulled over, loaded him into their vehicle and rushed him to Dr. Garner's veterinarian for IV fluids, antibiotics and a Vitamin B shot. As of that evening, he was still alive but having difficulty keeping his food down. He has clearly gone SO long without proper nourishment that he is on the brink of crossing the Rainbow Bridge. He made it through the night of December 23, and today on Christmas eve, he is now keeping his food down.
Karen's friend Becky, a next door neighbor, is housing him temporarily while they attempt to pull him back from the 'bridge' and restore his health. In honor of the season and the timing of his Christmas rescue, he has been named 'Nicholas'. All of our thoughts and prayers are with this sweet boy...who has been weakly wagging his tail and trying to give everyone kisses. He is neutered, housebroken and understands commands including the word 'out' to which he responds by walking slowly to the door and waiting. He appears to be a purebred English Pointer.
Anybody who might be interested in helping out or providing a home for this deserving 6-7 year old neutered male with a sweet temperament should contact Dr. Karen Garner at Takita2@earthlink.net

UPDATE
Nicholas is on the mend. His life has turned around. He is very happy, starting to fill out and look like a healthier dog. He is still too thin, but this is temporary and he's going to make it, with the love of his rescuers.
Flash 1/12/02: NICHOLAS HAS A HOME!
Really not a surprise. Becky and Paul, the foster home for Nicholas, have fallen in love with his sweet personality. He is housebroken, and can play catch and fetch. He sleeps on their bed, has lots of new toys and recently (this morning) accompanied them to their grandson's basketball game.
